low pinion Dana 30 front and a Dana 35c rear most likely. A select few had a Dana 44 rear.

Well that sucks! So was there a year TJ they have something other than LP D30 and D35?

03-06 Rubicons had the D44's but that's about it.

Ok now I'm starting to remember that Tinknocker's chick told me about the D44's on another post. I'm just surprised that the D35 is what is standard on the TJ. As you may know we (the wife and I) have a XJ. I want to get a TJ, and I was under the impression that the TJ had the same drive train as our XJ. I know the XJ can come with a D35, but ours has a Chrysler 8.25, and a high pinion D30.

So do people wheel the D35, or do they replace it? How about swapping out the LP D30 for something else? It sounds like to me that if I get the wife a 1998+ TJ with a LP D30 and a D35 if I want to put 35" tires on it I'll be swapping out both axles.

I run 35's on the D30, it will hold up if open or throw in a set of chromo's and lock it. I swapped in an 8.8 in the rear though. 35's on a D35 is a bad idea.
