Default How to reseat a broken bead or leaky tire bead!!!
by Tinknocker 02-21-2010, 11:50 AM

So if you have ever been out wheeling and aired down your tires chances are you've had a tire bead leak!!! unless your lucky like me and have bead locks!!!

here is how you fix it!!!

you can do this anywhere!!! i just happened to be doing it in the heated garage in January!!!

first remove the tire from the vehicle making sure that the vehicle is supported properly!!!

then you'll need to remove the schrader valve from the valve stem!!! lay the tire on the ground, take a highlift jack and place it under a bumper or slider on another vehicle!!! the weight of the other vehicle will help to press the foot of the highlift down breaking the bead from the rim!!!

after you have broken the tire bead from the rim, release the jack!!! i then place the tire on a over turned bucket, its easier to push on the wall of the tire and clean the back of the rim and bead of the tire that way!!!

i like to use a wire brush to clean the back of the rim!!!

at this point you wont have the schrader core in!!!

its now time to put the core back in here is a pic with the tool i use to remove the cores!!!

now comes the fun stuff!!! take a can of starter fluid!!!

take the starter fluid and spray it inside the tire through the broken bead!!! i spray it all the way around the tire!!! next using a charcoal lighter light the starter fluid(try to keep your hands as far away from tire as possible!!!)

the resulting explosion will cause the tire to rapidly expand and seat the bead!!!

if any fire is on the outside of the tire quickly extinguish it!!! you will need to add air pressure to the tire quickly to keep the bead seated against the rim!!!

check the bead for leaks and remount tire to jeep!!!
