Default First jeep!

Hello everyone. I just purchased my first jeep, its a 1991 yj 4 cylinder! My father has had it for about 7 years and started to restore it, but got an amazing deal on a newer jeep and so it got put on the back burner. Well the initial problem when he bought it was it had an issue with the fuel sending unit and gas tank. He purchased a new gas tank for it, 15 gallon. Well he was telling me that there is an issue with the fuel sending unit not fitting correctly in the tank due to a little rubber grommet on the bottom of the (fsu). Im not sure whats going on. I guess the original owner told him there was a common issue with the fuel unit breaking off so they started putting this little rubber grommet on the bottom of it to hold it in place in the tank. Well the new tank he bought brand new doesn't accept that little rubber grommet. Has anyone ever heard of this or what should i do. I just don't want to spend $180 on a new unit for it to not fit. Thank you for any input. Im new to the jeep world. I will try to upload pics tomorrow.

Not familiar with that issue but if it's rubber you should be able to trim it down a little at a time until it fits.

Thats what im thinking. I can trim the rubber down or cut the metal stem down a little bit and reapply the rubber grommet. Like i said i just picked it up. And this is what i was told. I havent had a chance to actually mess with it. Im just pretty excited about it. Its rough but its still solid.
